Vocafy Learning Language APP

Vocafy is a language-learning mobile application designed to make learning a new language more accessible, engaging, and personalized. The concept focuses on helping users build consistent learning habits through short lessons, interactive exercises, clear progress tracking, and a simple user experience.

The project explores how thoughtful UX can reduce the friction commonly found in language-learning apps and make daily practice feel less overwhelming. The experience was designed around different learner needs, from beginners building their foundation to busy professionals looking for flexible learning sessions.

Business Goal

The goal was to create a language-learning experience that encourages users to learn consistently and return to the app regularly. Vocafy aims to achieve this by: Making the learning journey simple and easy to navigate. Increasing user engagement through interactive and varied exercises. Helping users clearly understand their progress and achievements. Supporting flexible learning for users with different schedules. Creating a scalable experience that can encourage long-term user retention.

Problem

User data showed that 55% of new users churned before Day 4 of the free trial. Interviews revealed the home screen felt chaotic -too many options, unclear first action, and no immediate sense of progress. The app was powerful but intimidating.

Research

I explored the experience of language learners to understand their goals, behaviors, frustrations, and expectations from a learning app.

The research focused on:

  • Understanding how users currently learn languages through mobile apps.

  • Identifying common frustrations in existing language-learning experiences.

  • Comparing competitors such as Duolingo and Babbel.

  • Understanding what motivates users to maintain a daily learning habit.

  • Identifying opportunities to make lessons more engaging and easier to complete.

  • Mapping the user's journey from onboarding to completing lessons and tracking progress.

The research helped identify an important opportunity: language learning should feel flexible and achievable rather than like a long, complicated task.

Solution

Vocafy was designed around a simple, engaging, and flexible learning experience that allows users to focus on learning without unnecessary complexity.

Key UX improvements included:

Simplified Navigation
A clear information architecture helps users quickly understand where they are and what they should do next.

Personalized Learning Path
Users can select their language, level, and learning preferences to receive a more relevant learning experience.

Interactive Lessons
Different exercise formats, including vocabulary, listening, speaking, and quizzes, help reduce repetition and keep users engaged.

Clear Instructions & Feedback
Exercises provide straightforward guidance and feedback so users can understand their mistakes and learn from them.

Progress Tracking
A visual progress experience allows users to see completed lessons, skill development, and learning milestones at a glance.

Flexible Learning
Short, focused lessons make it easier for users to practice during breaks, commutes, or other small moments throughout the day.

Business Growth:

By creating a more intuitive and engaging learning experience, Vocafy has the potential to support key product and business goals such as higher engagement, stronger retention, and increased user loyalty. The improved experience can help: Increase lesson completion rates by making learning easier to start and finish. Encourage users to return regularly and build consistent learning habits. Reduce frustration and drop-off throughout the learning journey. Increase engagement through varied and interactive learning activities. Build stronger user trust through clear progress and personalized experiences. Create opportunities for future premium features, personalized learning plans, and subscription-based offerings. Overall, the UX direction focuses on turning language learning from a difficult commitment into a simple daily habit.
