Business Goal

Build a simple and intuitive personal finance experience that helps users understand, manage, and improve their everyday financial habits. The goal was to design Finora as a smart money assistant that brings income, expenses, wallets, savings, and financial insights into one clear experience. From a product perspective, the focus was on reducing the complexity of managing personal finances and creating an experience that encourages users to consistently track and understand their money.

Problem

User data showed that 55% of new users churned before Day 4 of the free trial. Interviews revealed the home screen felt chaotic -too many options, unclear first action, and no immediate sense of progress. The app was powerful but intimidating.

Research

The research phase focused on understanding how people manage their money and where friction can appear in everyday financial tracking.

I explored common behaviors around:

  • Tracking daily expenses

  • Managing multiple wallets and accounts

  • Recording income

  • Monitoring spending patterns

  • Setting savings goals

  • Reviewing financial activity

Key UX insights

The research direction highlighted several important needs:

1. Users need visibility first.
The most important information should be accessible immediately, especially balance, spending, and recent activity.

2. Recording transactions should be quick.
If adding an expense takes too many steps, users are less likely to maintain the habit.

3. Financial information needs hierarchy.
Users shouldn't have to interpret complicated dashboards to understand their financial situation.

4. Personalization matters.
Different users have different financial priorities, which led to the Choose Your Goal onboarding experience.

5. Trust and clarity are essential.
Because Finora deals with sensitive financial information, the interface needs to feel structured, predictable, and easy to understand.

Solution

I translated these insights into a simplified end-to-end experience designed around the user's most important financial tasks.

A focused onboarding experience

Instead of dropping users directly into a dashboard, Finora gradually introduces the product:

Onboarding → Choose Financial Goal → Add First Account → Dashboard

This allows the experience to understand the user's primary goal and help them set up the product before asking them to manage their finances.

A focused Dashboard

The dashboard prioritizes the information users need most:

  • Total Balance

  • Quick Actions

  • Recent Transactions

  • Financial overview

This creates a clear starting point instead of overwhelming users with data.

Faster transaction management

Adding expenses and income is designed as a straightforward flow with only the essential information:

Amount → Category → Date → Notes → Save

Wallet & account management

Users can organize their financial sources through dedicated wallets/accounts, making it easier to understand where their money is held.

Analytics

Instead of displaying raw financial data, the Analytics experience turns it into understandable insights through:

  • Income

  • Expenses

  • Savings

  • Monthly trends

Scalable Design System

Beyond the screens themselves, I built a reusable design foundation using:

Figma Variables → Primitive Colors → Semantic Colors → Components → Light/Dark Modes

This allows the product to remain consistent and makes future design updates easier to manage.

Business Growth

Since Finora is a concept product, I wouldn't put fake business metrics like “increased retention by 30%” on your portfolio. Instead, frame this section around how the product could support business growth. Designed for long-term product growth The structure of Finora creates opportunities to expand the product beyond basic expense tracking. Potential growth directions include: Personalized financial insights Use transaction patterns to provide users with relevant spending recommendations. Savings & financial goals Allow users to create goals and track progress over time, increasing continued engagement. Smart notifications Provide useful reminders around spending, budgets, and upcoming payments. Advanced analytics Introduce deeper spending trends and personalized financial reports. Multiple account integrations Allow users to connect bank accounts and financial services for more automated tracking. Product growth strategy The scalable Design System also supports business growth by making it easier to introduce new features while maintaining a consistent product experience. The goal was not only to design Finora for today, but to create a foundation that could support the product as it grows.
